Maybe Romance is a vase
A catalogue of my most used vases and how I style them
Spotted this at an op shop and could not leave without it. This turquoise goes perfectly with pinks, emeralds and jewel tones. The Camellia vase painting with its golden leaves feels so mystical to me, so naturally I twisted this Jasmine-vine into a little halo for my roses.
Passed down to me by an elderly family friend with no space for it anymore. It also comes with a big saucer. In another life it may have been perfect for serving sweet punch at a tea party, but in this one it’s perfect for filling with flowers you might find in a misty cottage garden far far away.
An antique from my Yiayia! My go-to for little things with small petals and delicate stems.
From Bed Bath N Table. Delftware can be hit or miss for me, but I remember thinking the crosses looked kind of gothic, so of course I had to find the most haunting flowers to match- blood red Hanging Amaranthus strung over arms of Tortured Willow.
I bought this from Kmart for probably around $15! My second favourite vase to use for flower frog arrangements. Slightly pearly so it pairs well with white accents, and the edge is scalloped which works well because you can lean stems against the higher parts of the rim.
My number 1 go-to for frog arrangements! This one is also from Kmart. Perfect size, super versatile colour and the most simple, flattering shape. Sometimes you need the flowers to do the talking and this vase lets you. Works so well as a base for experimental arrangements like this one.
The classic belly-vase. From the flower shop where I work (Belflora). I snatched it up right before the style became discontinued. One thing I love about this vase is that there are these tiny cracks in the ceramic, like the face of a porcelain doll. You can see it better here:
The wide rim is perfect for lush arrangements of flowers en-masse, like these Delphiniums or the Snapdragons/Stock in the previous photo.
My most serendipitous vase. One day I was at work when a man walked in and offered it up. To this day, I’m still not sure why- some of my all-time favourite arrangements have been done in this vase. It has a wide belly and small rim which holds big arrangements perfectly. I feel it was destined for this second life, a true TDA classic.
The sweetest golden bowl from TK Maxx. The wider the rim of the vase, the more space to fill with flowers. So whenever I use this bowl I have lots of space to play with, particularly with shape and flowers with long branches.
Classic op-shopped crystal vase. My go-to for anything tall like this Hybrid-Delphinium.
Most recent addition! Another Kmart find- the most interesting shape. Definitely a statement vase. The centre inside is the perfect size for flower frogs and the sides hide the mechanics so well.
And finally, a blast from the past. One of my first arrangements for TDA! This is quite literally a noodle bowl from Daiso.
